Feminism For Men

Feminism is the belief that both men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It not only helps women grow, but it also liberates men in our society.

Feminism For Men

What is Feminism?

Feminism, what comes to your mind when you hear this word?

I would guess how women are considered unequal in society and their movement of achieving equal rights but do you ever think about men in this scenario?

Feminism is the belief that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men. While this is true, men also have a lot at stake when it comes to the movement that is feminism.

Power v/s Freedom

Men have always been in a position of power in our society: be it in households where the eldest male sat at the head of the table, or be it at the top of any organisation which was usually led by men.

Now, with this growing feminism, men can finally break the shackles of this responsibility that was thrust upon them from birth.

Every boy in our country has learnt that he must grow up, earn money, get married and provide for his family; this was a given; he did not have a choice. The most he could do was not get married to shirk the responsibility and preserve some of his freedom, but he still had his mother and sisters to take care of.

Now, these responsibilities have also kept men in a cage; they are not free to do as they please; because they always have someone depending on them.

Are you in control or are you trapped?

Men are naturally creatures who seek power; they want to be able to control things- that is why this has never bothered them that they had to provide for the family. Being the providers meant they were in control, even if it was at the cost of their freedom.

This is the reason for a lot of problems in a relationship, a lot of people stay in unhappy relationships just because they know that their partner is relying on them for financial support. So, while men think that they are in a position of power, what happens is that they become slaves themselves.

So, feminism is not just a movement to free women from dependency, but it is a movement to free men from people depending on them.

Men have valued power more than freedom, which is sad because if you are not living freely, what kind of a life is it?

If their boss is bugging them, they cannot just throw away the job and go off to write a book; because that would mean that they won’t be able to provide for their family. Men cannot just take off to travel around the globe and backpack across western Europe. They cannot take a year-long vacation and cool off from their boring jobs.

Would it be too bad if the roles were changed?

If women can become self-dependent and sustain themselves, the dynamic will change completely; men and women can pursue any profession they want, take risks, and enjoy their life without worries.

The dynamic of the relationships would also change, which is also one of the reasons why men tend to be afraid of this freedom; if a woman was not dependent on them, would they be able to keep her?

The fear of losing the upper hand in the relationship is so high that some men do not let their wives work. But the fact is that a relationship that is a democracy is more enjoyable than one which is not.

In a democratic relationship, the joy of companionship is present because there is no other motive for the relationship. There is just the need for a better half with whom you can enjoy your life.

If you are in a relationship with no democracy, it eventually loses its excitement; it becomes boring and monotonous. The partners eventually become bitter and irritable.

Conclusion

Therefore, feminism and men are interrelated after all. It might make the lives of men easier than it would for women. So, imagine how your life would be if your wife would take care of herself on her own and she just wanted to be with you for your company- how great would that be?
